Glacier National Park

No matter where your healthcare travel assignment in Montana takes you, Glacier National Park is an absolute must-see. Known for its pristine wilderness, this treasure of a national park offers more than 700 miles of hiking trails, breathtaking views, and abundant wildlife (including lots of Grizzly Bears and Black Bears, so be sure to go prepared!). Whitefish

Not too far from Glacier National Park is Whitefish. Whitefish is a charming resort town known for incredible winter skiing or summer hiking and boating on Whitefish Lake, and it is one of the most popular places in Montana. Mountain biking travelers will love Whitefish Trail, which is only two miles from downtown and is perfect for all ages and abilities. Boutique shops and restaurants offer all things flavored huckleberry, the local prized berry, from microbrews to ice cream and pie.

Paradise Valley

Located just north of Yellowstone National Park, Paradise Valley is a stunning river valley nestled between the Absaroka and Gallatin mountain ranges. The area is known for its gorgeous scenery and opportunities to fly fish, hike, snowshoe, and ride horseback through numerous trails. Nearby Livingston is home to several restaurants and bars and a quaint Main Street with shops and galleries.

If you head to Paradise Valley on a weekend getaway, consider staying in one of the area’s resorts like Sage Lodge, which includes a luxurious spa, or The Centennial Inn, a unique, secluded stay in a Northern Pacific Railway Car. Head to Chico Hot Springs Resort for some well-earned r-n-r, sure to leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Bozeman

A vibrant college town with plenty of activities, Bozeman is great for both travel nurse and healthcare assignments and day trips. You can visit the Museum of the Rockies, explore the local art scene, or enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or skiing. The downtown area has plenty of great local restaurants and nightlife. Plenty of must-see outdoor spots are nearby, like Palisade Falls and Gallatin Canyon.

About an hour southeast of the city, you’ll find Big Sky Resort, a popular ski resort for locals and travelers alike. Ride the slopes in the winter or enjoy hiking, golfing, ziplining, and mountain biking in the off-season.

Missoula

Another college town that you must see in Montana is Missoula. Missoula is known for its laid-back vibe, local breweries, and plenty of fly fishing destinations. You can float down the Clark Fork River, explore the Rattlesnake Wilderness, or enjoy the lively downtown area with plenty of restaurants and shops. Missoula has a great farmer’s market, and local Caras Park is a great spot to picnic or unwind right in town.

There is also a fantastic local music scene, plus the KettleHouse Amphitheater is near enough to enjoy some big names in music who come through in the summer.

Flathead Lake

Flathead Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the western U.S., perfect for water sports, fishing, or just relaxing by the shore. In the warmer months, the area is excellent for camping and swimming and provides visitors with spectacular views of the Mission Mountains and Swan Range.

Don’t miss visiting Wild Horse Island State Park, which you can only get to by boat. The island is home to big horn sheep and wild horses, giving you a truly unique adventure on your Montana travel assignment!

Helena

Montana’s capital city offers historic charm, with museums, breweries, and scenic views. Helena also has two hot springs providing relaxation and events in town. The Montana Learning Center is a fantastic place to gaze up at the stars – you’ll truly see why they call it Big Sky! A visit to the Cathedral of St. Helena and a tour of the Montana State Capitol are musts for history-buff travelers. For an in-depth tour of the town and its history, take a ride on the Last Chance Tour Train during the summer. This hour-long city tour will give you an excellent overview of the area and landmarks.

A short drive from Helena is the Gates of the Mountains, a must-see canyon along the Missouri River where you can take a boat tour to see wildlife and incredible rock formations.

Bitterroot Valley

The Bitterroot Valley is a picturesque escape for healthcare travelers in southwestern Montana. The valley offers trails for hiking, rivers for fishing, and historic towns for a low-key day trip.
