LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 28, 2010) – We have exciting news for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical or vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) who legally reside in the state of Missouri and hold a Missouri nursing license. The Missouri legislature has passed a law that will go into effect on June 01, 2010, and implements the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) in the state of Missouri. The NLC allows a nurse to have one license (in his or her state of residency) and to practice (both physically and electronically) across state lines in any other compact state, subject to each state’s practice law and regulation.

For example, if you are an RN legally designated as a resident of Missouri and hold a Missouri nursing license, effective June 01, 2010, you will need only your Missouri license to practice nursing in any of the other 23 compact states. In addition, nurses in the other states currently participating in the compact will be able to travel to Missouri on assignment without acquiring a Missouri nursing license. This is great news because travel nurses who participate in the compact find it much easier to qualify for a travel nursing job without the expense and complicated task of obtaining a license in each assignment state.
