Celebrating Phyllis T.: Furthest Traveler From Home
When it comes to health care traveling, some prefer to stay a bit closer to home while others are more willing to travel further out to new places. And then there are those like Phyllis T., who are willing to travel all the way across countries! Phyllis hails from eastern Canada, but that hasn’t stopped her from traveling all the way to California this year while providing great care to all her patients along the way. Phyllis first got interested in traveling after working with a traveler as she started her nursing career. Being from a small village, Phyllis was fascinated by the stories he had to share, and planned to travel for just five years. Now, thirteen years later, Phyllis is still traveling and experiencing new adventures as a healthcare travel worker. We are blown away at all Phyllis has accomplished, and couldn’t help but smile when she said, “I have continued to travel with TNAA because what it boils down to is, they care about their nurses.”
For Phyllis, traveling so far from home is quite exciting, as there’s so many different things to experience, especially in the outdoors. Still, she knows that it also can be a bit anxiety-inducing, with planning the route, figuring out what exactly to see along the way, and finding places to stay for the night. However, Phyllis recommends that anyone curious about traveling tries it themselves at least once. Look up where you’re going, put together a list of some of the must-see places and things to do, and you’ll end up getting the most out of the experience.
What Phyllis likes the most about traveling so far is that it lets her fully explore wherever she’s at. Instead of spending a lot of time up and down the highway driving back home, she can relax and take day trips around the area, visiting all the little nooks and crannies along the way (which tend to have the best food as well!). Of course, it’s hard to be so far away from her family, and this year has definitely made things tougher. While her husband had flown out to be with her for the last eight weeks of her California assignment, COVID-19 restrictions meant he had to fly back, leaving her alone. She’s also had to haul her camper all across the country solo, which is something she’s quite proud of doing successfully!
Even with this year’s challenges, Phyllis is already looking forward to getting back out on the road, visiting friends and seeing the sights along the way. To help her get back home for a much-deserved visit, we’re providing her with a travel voucher so she can be back home for the holidays!
