Interview with Holly White, Travel Nurse & Triathlete

travel nurse stories

Holly White, RN, has been traveling with TNAA since January of 2006. She is currently on her 7th assignment and has won the respect of her co-workers on all her assignments due to her positive, willing attitude and excellent nursing skills. Travel Nurse Across America certainly appreciates her, and all of our current team members!

Holly, tell us a little about yourself…

Answer: I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee with one brother. When I was a senior in high school my best friend’s father died of cancer. A wonderful hospice nurse cared for him, and that’s what made me decide nursing was the career for me. I went to the University of Tennessee for some of my training and eventually got my degree from Roane State. I took my first job with a few friends on a Telemetry unit and have been a TELE nurse ever since!

So how did you decide to start traveling?

Answer: Frankly it was my husband who decided we should travel…he wanted to see the country! At the time I would have been happy to stay in Knoxville for the rest of my life, but I decided to take a chance! Of course, I can say that the excellent pay did help sway my decision! I only had 8 months of experience when I decided to travel, and Travel Nurse Across America was able to find me a great assignment with my experience level at the time. Derek has been my recruiter since the beginning, and I have never wanted to go with anyone else…I trust Travel Nurse Across America! My first assignment was in Show Low, Arizona, and then I moved to Denver, Colorado. Recently I completed an assignment in Indio, California and I am now back in my hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Do you have a favorite location?

Answer: Definitely DENVER! The hospital was great and the area just “fit” my husband and me. We are big “outdoor” people and Denver is just perfect. In fact, I completed my first triathlon there!

What kind of hobbies do you have?

Answer: Basically anything outdoors: hiking, biking, backpacking, etc. Recently we are enjoying our new chocolate lab puppy “Jesco”. He’s a great playmate for our 6-year-old Labrador retriever.

What are your future plans?

Answer: Well, we are back in our hometown so my husband could go back to school. Therefore, I would like to extend my assignment here…and after that, who knows? We hope to, at some point, start a family as well!
